A nurse left working with a paper mask, gloves and a pinny ‘paid the ultimate price’ after contractingGrandfather Gareth Roberts, 65, had been in the profession since the 1980s and was working for the Cardiff and Vale Health Board as a bank nurse when he died this weekend. The married father-of-two died in hospital in Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday and is one of dozens of NHS staff across the UK who are thought to have died after falling victim to Covid-19.
Childhood friend Janette Leonard said Mr Roberts had told his wife Linda he did not have good enough PPE while at work. She said: ‘Linda asked him when it all started coming out about the PPE and she said to him whether he had protection. He said, “No Linda, I’ve got a paper mask, a pinny and some gloves”.’Ms Leonard said the Government needed to provide more protective equipment. For all the latest news and updates on Coronavirus,
