Striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been backed to rediscover his old form for Nottingham Forest after making his first Premier League start of the season.
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo hasn’t ruled out playing the two forwards together again but accepts work would need to be done for it to be an option. Nevertheless, he believes Awoniyi can have a big part to play in the months ahead. “We’re counting on him. It was an option to put him alongside Wood. It’s something we have to work on and improve because it can give us good results, but that was the first time . I think he did well.
Injury problems and absences have not helped Awoniyi's cause. After being sidelined for a chunk of last term, he was then also missing for a spell in pre-season. It seemed he was still building up his fitness and match sharpness in the early weeks of this campaign.
