A historic number of Black Americans addressing the convention here in Milwaukee this week, making the argument that Donald Trump has broken Democrats' decades-long lock on Black voters.
Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump is seen on a video monitor as he arrives to attend the first day of the Republican National Convention, Monday, July 15, 2024, in Milwaukee. MILWAUKEE — President Biden once said that if a Black person voted for Donald Trump he “ain’t Black.”
He’s one of five Black Republicans in Congress, the largest total since 1877 — though still far behind Democrats’ number. Not all the RNC delegates share their ethnicity with convention organizers. However, among those who did, the latest RNC tally had at least 55 confirmed Black delegates at the convention this year. In 2016, there were 18 Black delegates.
“But there is good news: it is conservative values that restore hope,” Mr. Scott said. “It is Republican policies that lift people up.” On Tuesday, Mr. Biden traveled to the battleground state of Nevada to address the NAACP national convention.
