Nuggets veteran power forward Jeff Green is expected to pick up his $4.5 million player option, a league source told The Denver Post on Friday. Green has until Monday to opt-in for next season.

Green, 35, was a stalwart in the Nuggets’ starting lineup last season, filling in at power forward in the absence of injured forward Michael Porter Jr. Green started 63 games and played in 75, averaging 10.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in nearly 25 minutes.

Without Green, the Nuggets would’ve been exposed at forward, and he helped bridge the gap once Porter went down in November due to a back injury. With Porter presumably healthy heading into this upcoming season, Green will bolster the second unit alongside fellow forward Zeke Nnaji. It’s likely top decision-maker Calvin Booth knew Jeff Green would pick up his player option prior to dealing fellow veteran forward JaMychal Green earlier this week to Oklahoma City.

With Green, Porter and Nnaji all set to return next season, the Nuggets’ primary focus heading into next week’s draft is to improve their perimeter play.
