Russian scientists built the first fusion machine in 1950, but no one has yet managed to get more energy out of a fusion reaction than the energy put in to create one. If you add that into the calculation, they're still getting about one percent of the energy out than they put in.The excitement surrounding a breakthrough in nuclear fusion will understandably make the scientific community pretty giddy.
Earlier this year, scientists here in the UK set a new record for generating energy from nuclear fusion.reported, the Joint European Torus, or JET, an experimental fusion machine near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, generated around 59 megajoules, or 11 megawatts of energy in a five-second burst. Electromagnets surrounding the tokamak prevent this charged soup of ions from touching the sides and the whole reaction stopping, allowing fusion to occur.Make no mistake, the announcement we're expecting today is a big deal.
"While this is not yet an economically viable power plant, the path for the future is much clearer," he added.

Scientists map genetic evolution of chronic lymphocytic leukemia to Richter's syndromeEvery year, up to 1% of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a slow-growing blood cancer, have their disease transform into a far more aggressive cancer, a form of lymphoma known as Richter's syndrome. For the most part, the genomic changes that underlie this metamorphosis and push it forward have been obscure, hindering advances in treatment.
