The PM has confirmed each state and territory will collect a minimum of $50 million for social housing then extra based on population.
The country’s two most populous states will receive just over half of the Albanese government’s $2 billion social housing fund, money the Coalition says is a desperate attempt to appease the Greens ahead of another possible vote on Labor’s signature housing reform., and that states with more than a million residents would receive extra funds based on their population.
“This is about getting more homes built right now, getting people into them and taking the pressure off housing supply,” Albanese said. The Greens were declaring partial victory on Saturday, with housing spokesman Max Chandler-Mather welcoming the $2 billion fund and saying it was now“For months now, Labor has said there is no extra money for social or affordable housing,” the member for Griffith said. “They said it was impossible. Today, the Labor Party have caved to the Greens’ demands.”
