The New South Wales Labor government is set to hand down its budget on Tuesday, its first since 2010. Treasurer Daniel Mookhey is adamant the state will return to surplus in three years, despite $18 billion dollars in new spending and an $8 billion dollar budget shortfall expected this financial year. Western Sydney will be one of the biggest winners in this budget, where billions of dollars have been allocated to schools and hospitals. Wage increases have also been promised for public sector workers. Question marks still remain on whether the government plans to go ahead with the Sydney Metro West project.
