Breaking: A Sydney man in his 20s has died from COVID-19 overnight as NSW reported 233 new local cases | marywardy
NSW has reported 233 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, its third-highest figure during Sydney’s outbreak.
A man in his 20s has died at home from the virus in south-west Sydney overnight. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said he was not vaccinated. His death has been referred to the NSW Coroner.“Obviously our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” she said. “But it demonstrates again how this disease is lethal, how it affects people of all ages.“
A woman in her 80s from the inner west who was a confirmed COVID-19 case and was also not vaccinated died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital yesterday. She has been confirmed as NSW’s 16th COVID-19 death. Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the man was being treated at home by South Western Sydney Local Health District but “suddenly deteriorated”.“You can imagine the trauma for that other person, who has now been hospitalised,” she said.Ms Berejiklian said she had two other key matters she wanted to address on Wednesday morning:
A high detection of fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage in the Hunter-Newcastle area.in response to a number of cases on site. Similar operations have previously occurred at buildings in Bondi and Blacktown during Sydney’s outbreak.“Some of the transmission events clearly occurred between family groups or friends,” she said. Interviews of cases are ongoing.
