Corrective Services NSW has turned off three websites, including two news sites, as prisoners use a function on their tablets to search inmates' crimes and carry out violence.
Prisoners in New South Wales have been prevented from accessing some news websites after an outbreak of violence in jails, a parliamentary committee has heard.Corrective Services NSW was aware of a "spate of violence" due to a loophole in tablet use in prisons
However, in August, prisoners at the Junee Correctional Centre, near Wagga Wagga, found a loophole allowing them to look up the crimes of other inmates. "Not sure about the stabbings, but certainly there's been violence perpetrated as a result of that," he said.According to Mr Corcoran, Corrective Services had to "turn off" three websites, the news sites BBC and the Daily Telegraph, and the the Australian Electoral Commission website.
