Chris Minns has moved to suspend the CFMEU from the Labor Party after vision from a covert police operation allegedly captured the NSW union boss being passed a bundle of cash.
The CFMEU’s affiliation with the NSW Labor Party will be suspended and any political donations stopped after the premier reacted to “appalling” allegations brought to light by this masthead.
There is no suggestion that Greenfield is guilty, only that it is unusual for the leader of an organisation to stay in the role after being charged with corruption. In a statement reacting to the allegations published on Wednesday morning, NSW Premier Chris Minns and Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said there was no tolerance for criminal or corrupt behaviour in the NSW building industry.
“Given the serious nature of the allegations, we have written to the NSW Labor Party General Secretary and asked they take the necessary steps to immediately suspend the CFMEU Construction and General Division’s affiliation from the NSW Labor Party and stop any donations or affiliation fees.”
