UAF showcased some of their research during a visit from the NSF which awarded the university a $20 million grant.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The National Science Foundation has awarded a $20 million grant to the University of Alaska Fairbanks as part of the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, also known as EPSCoR.
On Wednesday, April 10, the NSF visited UAF to learn more about the research being done at the university. The visit was, in part, related to the grant the NSF awarded to UAF. According to the foundation, the grant is designed to build research and development capacity. The funding is part of the EPSCoR program meant to bolster support in locations that have seen less investment than others. These funds are specifically targeted at arctic research initiatives from the university.
“I was truly amazed by what EPSCoR has done for the state of Alaska and what UAF has made possible through the EPSCoR program for the state of Alaska,” said Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, the director of NSF. “The EPSCoR program here clearly has demonstrated tremendously since 2001 what you’ve been able to accomplish with the EPSCoR program.” Those funds have helped UAF acquire 37 new staff hires and provide thousand of research publication according to Panchanathan.
