The Storm will be aiming to leap to the top of the ladder, temporarily at least, as they take on a Bulldogs side aiming for back-to-back victories.

Ryan Papenhuyzen has come up with two huge plays to give the Storm the lead. The Melbourne fullback is really starting to warm into his work after all of those injury dramas. He came up with a steal on Josh Curran to give his side possession in the attacking zone.Conversion successful, Storm leads 6-0.Melbourne has arguably the best spine in the competition, but they haven’t played together much lately.

Last week marked the first time that Jahrome Hughes, Cameron Munster, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Harry Grant had played together since round 18, 2022. That’s 627 days! They will only get better the longer they have to gel.I was really looking forward to watching Stephen Crichton at fullback after he’s had the whole week to prepare for the position. However, speaking on Fox just before kick-off, Canterbury coach Cameron Ciraldo hinted Crichton might not be exclusively playing the custodian role.

Plenty of disruption for Canterbury. Max King was always at long odds to play after picking up a hand injury and has been scratched, with Josh Curran coming in. Jaeman Salmon will start in the back-row, Jake Turpin will replace Kurt Mann at lock and Poasa Faamausili shifts to the bench.Liam Knight drops out of the side, Josh Addo-Carr is back and Bailey Hayward will debut from the bench.AdvertisementWe kick off proceedings with Canterbury taking on Melbourne at AAMI Park.

It’s a huge task for Cameron Ciraldo’s men, but I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen from the Bulldogs this season. Lots needs to happen before the Bulldogs are genuine finals contenders - finding a halfback and some big men would be a good start - but you can’t fault the effort of the team. They’ve had a crack in every game they’ve played and if that continues, they will give themselves a chance.
