The NRCC has tapped GOP strategist Jon Reedy to serve as senior adviser
The National Republican Congressional Committee has tapped GOP strategist Jon Reedy to serve as a senior adviser, a shakeup that comes amid mounting concerns about the party’s prospects of winning back the House majority.
The move — which was confirmed by two senior Republicans — comes just days after NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer sounded a public alarm over the party’s lackluster fundraising. The House GOP campaign arm was outraised by its Democratic counterpart by $40 million in 2019, and Emmer during an appearance before the conservative Ripon Society that “our members need to get their act together and raise more money.”There are also worries about recruiting. With filing deadlines approaching, the party has yet to lock down top candidates to challenge incumbent House Democrats in several districts President Donald Trump won in 2016.
Reedy previously worked at the House GOP campaign arm for three election cycles. He served as northeastern regional political director during the 2014 and 2016 cycles, overseeing a part of the country rife with tough races for the party.It is unusual for a party committee to bring on a senior-level staffer mid-way through an election cycle. But the move comes on the heels of the departure of Nathan Klein, who had been serving as political director for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
