The world No. 1 tennis player's visa to enter Australia was canceled for not meeting the requirements for an exemption to COVID-19 vaccination rules.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters that the tennis player"didn't have a valid medical exemption. We make the call at the border, and that's where it's enforced."

"Our strong border policies have been critical to Australia having one of the lowest death rates in the world from COVID, we are continuing to be vigilant," he added.Tennis Australia CEO, and Australian Open tournament director, Craig Tiley said the anonymous application process for medical exemptions was confidential and run by two independent panels of experts.

It's unknown which exemption criterion was met by Djokovic and the Serbian athlete has not revealed whether he has ever received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.chat with several fellow Serbian athletes back in April 2020, the tennis player said:"Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldn't want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel. But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision.

At a press conference following a meeting with state officials discussing the record level of COVID-9 infections in the country, Morrison said:"We await his [Djokovic's] presentation and what evidence he provides us to support that."
