Between now and early October when voting gets underway, The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board is planning to publish dozens of candidate Q&As and nearly two dozen commentaries connected to a handful of San Diego city ballot measures and seven state propositions on the Nov. 8 election. A: The state is not doing enough to address drought conditions in Orange and San Diego counties. We should diversify our water sources, including developing and advancing new recycled water and desalination facilities, so we are prepared for inevitable state water restrictions from traditional sources like the Colorado River. I would work hard every day to make these solutions a reality.

Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the state should empower local cities to develop affordable housing that fits each community. I will enact policies that incentivize local housing development with public safety grants, funding for public parks and beaches, and historical preservation programs, instead of penalizing cities for seeking to protect their culture and traditions.
