Many don't want Boris Johnson to stay on
Ashfield's Conservative MP Lee Anderson has revealed who he would like to see step in and take over from Boris Johnson. Mr Anderson spoke to say the country needs someone "boring" as to stop the "circus" that is Downing Street at the moment.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to the lectern outside Number 10 on Thursday, July 7 to state he would be resigning as Conservative Party leader, but he is seeking to remain PM until the autumn while a new successor is chosen. A new successor could be anyone from Wyre and Preston MP Ben Wallace to current deputy Dominic Raab.
And it is Mr Raab who Ashfield's MP believes is the suitably boring man for the job. Speaking with PoliticsJOE, Mr Anderson said: "I think he should just go. We need a steady pair of hands. Somebody who is a little bit boring to stop the circus that has been that place over there ."Somebody who is stable, somebody who is sensible. Like I say, a little bit boring, just crack on.
"People in this country need stability. It is going to be Dominic [Raab] in the interim. He is deputy prime minister, he probably needs to step up and step into those shoes and just steady the ship." And asked how the Tory Party is going to rid Number 10 of Mr Johnson before his time is up he replied: "No idea".
