The roundabout was once described as the 'worst roundabout in Nottingham'
A mini roundabout in Bulwell is to be removed and replaced with traffic signals to prioritise buses and improve journey times. Moor Bridge roundabout between Hucknall Lane and Moor Bridge Road will be removed to make way for new bus lanes and traffic signals.
The proposals for the project include removing the mini roundabout and replacing it with traffic signals with push-button pedestrian crossings. It also aims to improve bus reliability and journey times by providing buses with priority at the junction. Highlighting how bad the roundabout is in 2022, she said: "The crashes are getting more frequent - it's getting worse. There are some idiots who do 60mph on the approach to the roundabout.
"It's the most dangerous roundabout in Nottingham. Just before I moved here somebody came across the bridge and crashed into one man's garage. There's clearly a problem here and it needs sorting out." Speaking about the removal of the roundabout and introduction of traffic signals, Ian Taylor, a spokesperson for the Alliance of British Drivers, said: “We have a preference for roundabouts over traffic lights generally speaking, there are exceptions and of course there’s an awful lot of roundabouts that they put traffics on as well now.
Nottingham City Council has also confirmed that work on Edwards Lane will begin this summer which is a part of the bus priority schemes. Work will take place at the Edwards Lane/Oxclose Lane/Arnold Road junction to improve access for buses – leading to smoother, more reliable journeys.
