Notre Dame opened with a big win over the Stonehill Skyhawks but struggled a bit to put away the Buffalo Bulls, winning 86-77 at home in a game where the Fighting Irish were 23.5-point favorites. Georgetown has improved its talent level going into this year. Freshman forward Thomas Sorber has looked like an immediate star, averaging 22.5 points and 11 rebounds per game over his first two games at the college level, but he’ll face his first real resistance on Saturday, as Notre Dame’s Kebba Njie is an experienced interior defender with the size and athleticism to keep up with Sorber.
Notre Dame has a deeper lineup that’s also more talented overall. That should wear on the Hoyas, who rely on a small number of key players to find ways to win games against weaker opponents. When those players aren’t clearly better than their opposition, Georgetown will struggle. There will be better days ahead for the Hoyas, but they don’t have the players to hang with Notre Dame on Saturday.
