Sam Hartman and Audric Estime came up big as the Fighting Irish overcame a sluggish night to win on the road
On a night when big plays were hard to come by, No. 11 Notre Dame’s two best players made the two biggest plays of the night when their team needed them most.combined for 37 rushing yards on consecutive plays to give the Irish an improbable 21-14 comeback win over No. 17 Duke to extend Notre Dame's ACC regular season winning streak to 30.
With that trio out, downfield passing plays were sparse. Evans provided most of the big plays in the passing game. He had game-highs of six receptions for 134 yards. His final catch of the night, a 19-yard gain, came on 3rd and 12 during the decisive touchdown drive. Notre Dame had failed to convert its previous 10 3rd downs prior to the play.
Evans had 4 catches for 99 yards in the first half. They went for 34, 14, 21, and 36 yards. The rest of the team had 5 catches for 33 yards. The longest was a 13-yard grab by Audric Estime. Hartman went 9 of 16 for 132 yards. The Irish shot themselves in the foot with seven penalties for 40 yards in the half. Duke had none.
