I’ve been writing about technology for two decades and am routinely struck by how the sector swings from startling innovation to persistent repetitiveness. My areas of specialty are wearable tech, cameras, home entertainment and mobile technology.

Nothing, the splendidly named tech company based in London, is on a roll. Earlier this year, just four months ago, it announced the Phone , a more affordable phone than its flagship Phone . So, you might have thought, that would be it for a while. No, here comes the Phone Plus.Your next assumption, perhaps, would be that the Plus indicates it’s a bigger version of a similar phone, related in the way the iPhone 15 Plus is to the iPhone 15. But no, wrong again, sorry.

The front camera has been improved from a 32-megapixel snapper to a 50-megapixel one. Nothing says there are software improvements which will improve photography, too—although these will likely come to the Phone as well, at least. Charging the phone is also faster: there’s 50W fast charging support, up from 45W last time around, making charging 10% faster than the Phone and which means 20 minutes of charging delivers a day’s power, the company says. Then there’s the finish.
