Elsewhere, Jess Sargeant, who used to work for the Labour Together think-tank, was given a role as a deputy director in the Cabinet Office’s propriety and constitution unit. He said: “I’ve always been of a view that all public appointments should go through an open competitive process. “The danger for this government is that people might say they’re no different to the last lot,” he said.
