The Bundesliga is up and running, but not everyone is happy about it restarting.

As the first league in Europe to do so, the Bundesliga restarted last weekend after a lengthy suspension of games was enforced due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. After this weekend’s matches, they will have just seven match days to go before completing the season.

For Schalke 04 fans, their club unfortunately lived up to its name in the Signal Iduna Park last Saturday as the team went down 0-4 against Lucien Favre’s rampant Dortmund side. The biggest hiccup in the run-up to the restart occurred in the second division, where players and officials of Dynamo Dresden tested positive for Covid-19. This prompted provincial officials to order the entire team into two weeks of quarantine, which led to their matches being postponed. The club, which is currently at the bottom of the second division, will now have to play nine matches in 29 days, which, according to their fans, is not fair.

Not surprisingly, DFL head Christian Seifert was ecstatic about the restart, and dismissed criticism. “In sum total, the restart went well. Now it is important that we keep discipline. We can’t afford to sit back and say, ‘You see, everything is fine,’ and relax. What we managed is only the first step and we have no idea whether the coronavirus will win in the end.”
