Matt Reeves's The Batman universe is officially separate from James Gunn's DCU, and this development brings with it both pros and cons.
The Batman Part II will not be part of James Gunn's DCU, which brings both benefits and drawbacks. Gunn and Peter Safran came aboard as heads of the newly formed DC Studios in late 2022, formulating a plan for a new DC Universe that will encompass movies, television, and gaming. Gunn and Safran's plans naturally include the Dark Knight, who will appear in The Brave and the Bold, but this also made addressing the future of Matt Reeves's The Batman franchise necessary.
Ben Affleck's Batman is the one who was introduced in a world in which metahumans, superpowers, and aliens exist, which made all of them believable within the context of his story. In The Flash, Michael Keaton's Batman will meet metahumans for the first time, but Tim Burton's gothic, otherworldly vision for his Batman universe makes such a crossover a much easier sell.
