The blast happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on April 16 at the company’s Promontory complex. The site is used for manufacturing a component in solid rocket motor propellant and conducts space and missile production and testing.
In a statement released Friday, a Northrop Grumman spokesperson said the incident would not impact ongoing programs, operations, or rocket motor production at the space systems facility. They also confirmed that no solid rocket motors were lost or damaged.The spokesperson added that all employees in or near the building at the time of the incident safely evacuated, and no significant injuries were reported.We are actively working to determine the cause of the incident involving one of our buildings at our Promontory, Utah, facility on April 16. All employees working in or near the building are safe with no significant injuries. Several employees were working in and near the building at the time of the incident and all evacuated safely. This incident will not affect progress on any Northrop Grumman programs, operations or solid rocket motor production. The building where the incident occurred was used to produce an ingredient in solid rocket motor propellant and is one of many in our production network. Additionally, no solid rocket motors were lost or damaged. Our employees are our greatest asset, and their safety is our top priority. Our protocols, which are under near constant review both internally as well as by peer organizations and onsite government entities, proved to keep employees safe in this unfortunate event. The Promontory site is one of several across the country that support our solid rocket motor production and testing. Promontory is a large property with over 800 buildings and nearly 20,000 acres of land. The company continues to add additional solid rocket motor capacity to support future customer needs and remains committed to delivering the most capable, reliable and valuable products for our customers.
