A solar eclipse traversing the nation will make a partial appearance in Utah right around lunch time.

by Emma Riley & Matthew Jacobson, KUTVPath of the 2024 total solar eclipse A solar eclipse traversing the nation on Monday will make a partial appearance in Utah right around lunch time - and it will be the last such event in North America for 20 years.

The eclipse will begin in Mexico, cross into the U.S. at Texas and then work northeast to Maine and into Canada. The optimal viewing time will be at 12:32 p.m., when Utahns will see a 50% eclipse. However, even at the darkest point of a total eclipse, it's still not safe to look directly at the sun without proper solar-viewing glasses.

Clark Planetarium has free solar glasses at the Planet Fun Sore, 110 S. 400 West, Salt Lake City, while supplies last. Glasses will also be available at recreation centers and libraries, according to information from Salt Lake County. In Salt Lake City, community members can attend the viewing party at Pioneer Park, 250 S. 300 West.

Solar eclipse watchers can also gather in Taylorsville at the Garcy C. Swenson Valley Regional Park, 5100 S. 2700 West.
