Some public officials are concerned the big solar storm could disrupt communication satellites, GPS systems and parts of the power grid
A rare atmospheric phenomenon known as the Northern Lights was visible in many areas of New Jersey late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. This photo was taken in Bedminster in Somerset County. Experts say the Northern Lights may be visible again Thursday night in New Jersey and perhaps as far south as Alabama.
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a geomagnetic storm watch for Thursday, Oct. 10, and Friday, Oct. 11, placing the watch at a high G4 level, which is considered severe. The solar storm could create colorful Northern Lights, but it also could disrupt some communications satellites and power grids, officials say.“The storm is expected to reach Earth between early morning and 12 p.m.
