Officials said that Northeast High School in Philadelphia was locked down on Wednesday morning after a student, allegedly, brought a gun to school.

A student at Northeast High School was taken into custody and the school was locked down on Wednesday morning after they brought a gun to school, officials said Police have arrested a student after, officials say, he brought a firearm to Northeast High School on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the student – later identified as Tawhiid Miles – was taken into custody after a school safety officer saw the silhouette of what looked like a handgun inside his backpack while it went through X-Ray scanners at the front door of the school around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.Officials said the firearm was recovered from the Miles' backpack and he was taken to the school's holding cell as the Philadelphia Police Department was notified. According to police, the handgun had six live rounds in the magazine and one live round in the chamber.After the incident, in a letter to parents, Northeast High School Principal Omar Crowder said the school was locked down for about an hour in the morning as police officials did a sweep of the property after the weapon was found.LocalMiles was charged with violations of the uniform firearms act and possession of a weapon on school property among other related charges.
