At a Northbrook Village Board meeting, Brookfield Properties, operators of Northbrook Court, revealed drawings and possibilities of how shopping center's estimated 100 acres could evolve over the next decade.
Representatives from Brookfield Properties of Northbrook Court are in the audience and include, second from left, Ben Freeman, senior vice president, development at Brookfield Properties during the Northbrook Village Board of Trustees on April 25, 2023.
“This is really an opportunity for Brookfield to tell us what they have in mind,” Ciesla said of the boardroom presentation. “This is the start of the conversation. Everybody needs a seat at the table so we can work through this together.”Ciesla said Northbrook Court, as a regional shopping mall, is now, “functionally obsolete, perhaps on life support,” adding Northbrook Court is, “something that needs to change.
Beyond pop-up drive-through holiday light shows and even Northbrook Days held in recent years in the west parking lot, Brookfield Properties and the village wish to now address all of Northbrook Court’s acreage as a retail/dining/residency multigenerational community. “The concept plans presented represent a new and exciting path forward for Northbrook Court and the surrounding community,” Freeman said to Pioneer Press. “We have been, and will continue to work on a comprehensive redevelopment intended to revitalize Northbrook Court for the next generation.“This is a complex undertaking, and Brookfield Properties is committed to engaging thoughtfully and thoroughly with the board and community members to move forward with this process,” Freeman said.
