The Cuyahoga County charter allows municipalities to exempt themselves from county ordinances, at least in this case. Other communities, including Strongsville, have also opted out of the county plastic bag law.
Published: Jul. 05, 2022, 12:41 p.m.ByNORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- City Council, in a unanimous vote, has exempted North Royalton from a new Cuyahoga County law that prohibits retailers from using single-use plastic bags in the checkout line.
The county law was originally scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, 2020. However, Cuyahoga County Council delayed implementation when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and concerns were raised over whether handling reusable bags could help spread the virus.
