The skate season is back at North Olmsted Recreation Center’s ice rink.
Published: Oct. 16, 2024, 8:20 a.m.“We have some new instructors on board,” North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commissioner Betsy Drenski said. “These are from people with a lot of good experience who have moved into the area or from other parts of the country and are excited to join us.
When it comes to creating a love of ice skating, Drenski points to her learn-to-skate program she started more than 20 years ago that continually feeds youth into various on-ice groups. “That’s always going to be on the main rank. I haven’t ever canceled that, changed it or sold it to someone else. We’re always going to have that. Also, it makes it easy for people to remember to sign up their kids.”
Fully supported by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating, Learn to Skate USA through updated curriculum and certified instructors provides programming across the nation aimed at creating a love of skating.“I appreciate the program, that we can have something to follow along and be consistent,” she said. “As far as reaching milestones, it’s nice but our goal is to make sure people want to keep coming here and skating.
