Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a man after he fired shots at police officers three different times as they tried to detain him in the Valley Plaza shopping center area, according to police.

A suspect is dead, shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers, after police attempted to detain the man as they responded to a North Hollywood assault with a deadly weapon call early Monday morning. Officers arrived at Victory Boulevard near Laurel Canyon Boulevard around 4:50 a.m. and encountered a man with a gun. According to LAPD detective Meghan Aquilar, the man pointed the gun at officers while they were still in their vehicle.

He then ran back into the parking structure, and a third shooting between the suspect and police occurred, involving 'numerous officers.' The suspect was struck by gunfire and died at the scene.Aguilar said that after the shootings happened, and the suspect was dead, officers found a man shot dead nearby, parked in a vehicle behind some commercial businesses. It is not clear at this time the relationship between the shooting suspect and the victim in the car, nor the motive.
