North Carolina is reportedly on the verge of hiring six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick to be its next football coach.
While Belichick is considered one of the greatest NFL coaches ever, he's never coached in the college game, even as an assistant. During an interview with the Pat McAfee Show earlier this week, Belichick spoke about how college football is becoming more like the NFL and said that he would run his program like an NFL program if he was to become a college coach.
"IF I was in a College program it would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL..Belichick, who has spent this year working in media after 24 years as the head coach of the New England Patriots, first interviewed for the job last week and quickly emerged as the leading candidate.
Belichick replaces Mack Brown, who was fired last month after six years as the Tar Heels’ head coach. It’s unclear what Belichick will be paid, but Brown’s salary was $5 million per year.
