The daughter of migrant farmworkers, López is one of 15 women leaders being honored.

López is one of 15 women leaders in education, business, the arts, law, health care and the military who are being honored by the Hall of Fame, a nonprofit that raises money for college scholarships for women.

López is immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a former president of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. She long has beenThe others slated for induction in March include former Air Force undersecretary Gina Ortiz Jones; Karla Broadus, retired director of the African American studies program at the University of Texas at San Antonio; folklorist Norma Elia Cantú of Trinity University; Amelie G.

Soon after, she was put in charge of the paper’s criminal justice team. In 2003, she became state editor, overseeing coverage of the Texas Legislature and managing bureaus in Washington, the Rio Grande Valley, Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico.and joined the paper’s masthead as executive editor in 2020.

The daughter of migrant farmworkers, López was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. as a child. She grew up in Edinburg and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Pan American University . She became an American citizen in 2008.
