Nor Zahidi Alias was reappointed as an external member of the monetary policy committee for a three-year term, effective Jan 1, 2023.

In a statement today, the central bank said Nor Zahidi has been an external member of the MPC since January 1, 2021.

He was Malaysian Rating Corporation’s chief economist. Prior to that, he was head of research and chief economist at Alliance Merchant Bank and MCIS Zurich Insurance’s head of research. Earilier in his career, he also worked at The New Straits Times Press Bhd as a senior analyst before subsequently joining Kuala Lumpur City Securities as an economist.

Nor Zahidi holds a master’s degree in economics policy and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Boston University. Under the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 , the MPC is responsible for formulating monetary policy and deciding on policies for the conduct of monetary policy operations.
