Some areas of the East Coast from Virginia to Maine are preparing for a blizzard, with snow accumulations of more than a foot.
Snow falls in central Pa., January 2022To the east, some residents of Virginia up into Massachusetts and Maine are expecting at least a foot or more of snow, with winds of 50 mph producing blizzard conditions.The storm is expected to strengthen off the coast of North Carolina over the next 24 hours and then make its way north, bringing several inches to Washington D.C. and Baltimore and perhaps 6 inches to Philadelphia.
A wide swath from Hartford, Connecticut, to Worcester, Massachusetts, and Bangor, Maine, are preparing for a blizzard, with snows of a foot to a foot and a half blown around by high winds,“This is going to be an intensifying storm that will produce a lot of wind, which raises concerns for blowing and drifting snow, power outages and blizzard conditions in some areas,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.
A winter storm watch is already in place from Friday evening to Saturday evening for portions of northeast New Jersey, southern Connecticut and southeast New York. As for central Pennsylvania, the forecast calls for flurries or light snow forecast to overspread the area Friday morning and continue into the evening. Perhaps an inch or 2 might accumulate by Saturday morning,Temperatures will begin to moderate starting Sunday, the NWS says.A slight chance of light snow after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
