After a group of showers closed in downtown Austin , a nonprofit helping those experiencing homelessness brought in a shower trailer from California to help fill the gap."This parking lot was considered metal, and we turned it into gold." Urban Alchemy Director of Operations Jeff Lee said."The support is very important to know there's somebody that cares." Avous Irving, who has been experiencing homelessness on and off for about two years, said. "I'm on S.S.I.

Lee says the shower trailer was brought in from California after another dependable shower resource in the city shut down. Lee understands the struggle. He was in prison for more than 30 years, and most of his staff come from similar situations. Urban Alchemy has operated in Austin since October 2022, and Lee says he's seen a lot of change in the last couple of years.
