Back 2 School America launches contest celebrating Illinois teachers
It's been a tough few years for teachers, with many leaving their professions at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We actually launched this campaign at the beginning of COVID. I was seeing more and more news stories about teachers, and the fact that they are not getting the support that they need, the struggles that they were having, and so I felt it was important to shine a spotlight on this problem, and to give them a pat on the back for what they're doing," CEO Matthew Kurtzman said."It's a tremendous amount of work on their part.
"Safety is now yet another thing that we have to be concerned about for teachers and for students, and so I really think we need to focus a lot of energy and resources on schools. It's why we obviously give out school supplies, but teachers are unsung heroes, and they need to be appreciated," Kurtzman said."Parents need to thank teachers. We need to thank teachers. We need to support them. We need to give them the salaries they deserve.
