JERUSALEM: Israeli researchers found that non-invasive brain stimulation, combined with cognitive training, could significantly improve symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem said in a statement on Wednesday.
ADHD, a prevalent neurological condition that impacts individuals' focus, memory, behavior and impulsive tendencies, is affecting about 5.2 percent of children globally.Administering medication to address the condition enhances a child's attention span and overall mood. However in some cases, it may lead to side effects such as headaches and reduced appetite, requiring the development of non-pharmacological interventions for ADHD.
In a new study conducted by the Israeli university and Britain's University of Surrey, and issued in the journal Translational Psychiatry, the team tried to find out whether a new form of brain stimulation that involves a mild electrical current through two electrodes can improve ADHD symptoms during cognitive training.
