La premio Nobel de la Paz, Narges Mohammadi, inició el lunes una huelga de hambre porque se le negó a ella y otras reclusas recibir atención médica y para protestar contra el uso obligatorio del velo para las mujeres en Irán, informó una campaña que defiende a la activista.
La decisión de Mohammadi, de 51 años, aumenta la presión sobre la teocracia iraní por su encarcelamiento, un mes después de recibir el Nobel por sus años de activismo a pesar de una campaña del gobierno de décadas contra ella. Por otro lado, se reporta que otra activista encarcelada, la abogada Nasrin Sotoudeh, necesita atención médica que aún no ha recibido.
Añadió que la República Islámica “es responsable de cualquier cosa que le suceda a nuestra querida Narges”. Las autoridades iraníes y la cadena de televisión controlada por el Estado no han reconocido la huelga de hambre de Mohammadi, lo que es común en los casos que involucran a activistas. La misión de Irán ante Naciones Unidas no respondió de momento a una solicitud de comentarios.
