decided to get real with her audience about her struggles with depression and internal anxiety. And in her new video, the star made a move to try and help others who may need it.
On Monday , Cyrus released the official video for "Lonely," which shows her, dressed in all black, in a black-and-white void, dealing with her emotions. As the video continues, a group of chorus members gradually appear, all of whom the singer chose from theThroughout the video, the chorus continually reaches out to try and help Cyrus, but she doesn't seem to understand that they're there. At one point, she slowly floats into the air, as the choir members reach for her.
In a statement, Cyrus said that she knows that “sometimes there can be dozens of people around you but you still feel lonely. I wanted the video to show what it could really feel like.” Co-director Ridgell added that the video is about finding a community wo will support you. "It's about vulnerability, trauma and dropping your facade, but also about human connection and finding strength among others ,” she said.
