Peter Dodge spent over 40 years studying and researching hurricanes with the NOAA.
On Tuesday, radar scientist Peter Dodge received the ocean burial of a lifetime, a trip through the eye of Hurricane Milton .that the scientist passed away in March at the age of “72 when he died after suffering a stroke in 2023.″ For much of his career, Dodge worked at the NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Lab in Florida.“Radar scientist Peter Dodge passed away in March 2023,” Graves wrote. “As tribute, Hurricane Hunters just dropped his ashes into the eye of Category 5 Milton.
“Beautiful tribute from @NOAA_HurrHunter, who earlier this evening honored longtime radar scientist and researcher Peter Dodge, who passed away in March 2023,” wrote Lowry. “His ashes were dropped in the eye of Category 5 Milton tonight –PETER DODGE HX SCI 387TH PENNY”. Dodge’s work was focused on studying hurricane pattern characteristics, and he had done 386 eye penetrations before he died, according to meteorologist Jeff Masters.
