CLASSES in all levels in public schools and work in government offices in Metro Manila and Bulacan are suspended on August 25, 2023 for the opening of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which will be held at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Memorandum Circular 27 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that the suspension is also part of the government’s commitment toward wider involvement and participation in sports promotion and development, and in order to provide full support and assistance to the Philippine Sports Commission in ensuring the safe, orderly, and successful opening ceremonies of the FBWC 2023.
Government agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services must, however, “continue with their operations and render the necessary services.” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the suspension of work for private companies and classes in private schools is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
Earlier, Philippine National Police spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo said they are already ironing out the security operations for the event, ensuring the deployment of sufficient police personnel in the playing venues, and hotels and billeting areas of players and other staff.The 19th Edition of FIBA's flagship event will be hosted across three nations in Asia: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

Bulacan Foundation Day also prompts the monthlong celebration of the Singkaban Festival.
