No Time To Die was lacking a really compelling villain, and also missed a chance to turn a former James Bond ally into a misguided villain.

No Time To Die should have made one of the franchise's biggest key characters a villain. The Daniel Craig era of the James Bond movies was one of sweeping change. Craig's 007 largely did away with outlandish, world-ending villain schemes and gadgets to focus on more grounded action and emotion. Some welcomed this change with open arms, whilst others felt Craig's run was too self-serious and brooding.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY No Time To Die was neither the best nor worst of Craig's outings, but it broke some of the biggest rules. This includes killing Bond at the end, with the spy sacrificing himself to protect his loved ones. Ralph Fiennes Didn't Want M To Be A Villian 007 and M may have butted heads in past entries, but making the latter a villain would have been a bold move - and possibly a controversial one. M actor Fiennes himself may not have been keen on the concept, however. He previously vetoed an attempt to make M an antagonist in Spectre, where he recounted to the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had to "fight off" director Sam Mendes' concept as "M is never the bad guy.
