No Time To Die Song Was Almost Written By Ed Sheeran
United States Latest News,United States Headlines

Ed Sheeran came close to doing a James Bond song before No Time to Die went through some changes. 'They changed directors, and then they just changed scripts, and that was it.'

No Time To Die's theme song ended up being written by Billie Eilish, but Ed Sheeran now reveals that he was the one originally slated for the job. After a successful tenure as James Bond starting in 2006 with Casino Royale, Daniel Craig said farewell to the role with last year's No Time To Die.

The film, which is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, was delayed a number of times due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but ultimately released to generally positive reviews from audiences and critics. In a first for the franchise, No Time To Die ended with the definitive death of Craig's Bond as he saves the world from a nanobot plague. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In keeping with franchise tradition, No Time To Die features an exciting opening action sequence, with Bond and his lover, Madeleine Swann , narrowly escaping from a group of Spectre operatives while in Matera, Italy. The action-packed sequence ends with Bond believing that Madeleine betrayed him and the two parting ways at a local train station. No Time To Die then launches into its customary opening theme song, which Eilish performs in her signature style. By writing the song for No Time To Die, Eilish joins the likes of Chris Cornell, Alicia Keys, Jack White, Adele, and Sam Smith, who all previously wrote songs for Craig's run of Bond films. In a recent interview on That Peter Crouch Podcast , Ed Sheeran reveals that he was actually slated to write and perform the No Time To Die theme song before Billie Eilish was brought on. Despite losing out on the gig after already putting some work in, Sheeran makes clear that he would still gladly accept a call to do it again. Check out Sheeran's full comment below: "I was within a f---ing gnat's pube of doing one. They changed directors, and then they just changed scripts, and that was it. But we had done all the meetings. I had started writing it. "You've got to — eventually, as an English singer — want to do a Bond song. I'm not gonna pretend it didn't hurt not doing it. If they come back, I'll be like, 'Yeah yeah, of course.'" How No Time To Die Changed During Development After Craig was convinced to return for one more Bond film following the lackluster reception to Spectre, No Time To Die famously changed quite a bit during the development stage. 28 Days Later and Sunshine director Danny Boyle was originally slated to helm the film with a script from his longtime partner, John Hodge, but producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are said to have lost confidence in their idea. Little is known about Boyle and Hodge's original vision, but it was later revealed to be quite a departure from typical Bond fare, with a plot taking place primarily in Russia and delving into Bond's past. Sheeran doesn't go into detail regarding the situation behind the scenes, but it sounds like he was a casualty of Boyle's departure. Fukunaga, who was previously best known for Beasts of No Nation and True Detective, was then brought on to direct No Time To Die with a new script from Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, which was later punched up by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. While it's unclear how far along Sheeran got in the writing process for his No Time To Die song and whether fans will ever be able to listen to it, it certainly sounds like the musician isn't counting out doing another Bond theme in the future.
