No power cuts for defaulters during lockdown, says minister
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah says people who are unable to pay their electricity bill during the movement control order will not be cut off. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 19, 2020.
“I would like to announce that Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd will not be terminating power supply for consumers who are late in paying their bills for the period of the movement restriction period,” he said in a statement. “This 15% discount involved about 10,000 accounts and will reduce their bills by RM40 million for those in the peninsula, RM20 million in Sabah and RM8.5 million in Sarawak.”Finally, the government is also giving a 2% discount to domestic users. This is on top of a 6% discount already given to domestic users from January to June 2020.
“In Sabah, the saving is about RM5.7 million for 520,000 domestic users, and in Sarawak, it is a saving of RM6.8 million for 586,000 users,” said the minister.
