KUCHING: There is no need to lock down the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) even though some of its healthcare workers have tested positive for Covid-19, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the majority of those infected did not contract the virus from treating patients, but were linked to other clusters.A lot of them belong to some of the clusters," he said after a site visit to the active case detection operation in Kota Samarahan on Wednesday .

Previously, he had said that 21 of the healthcare workers came from the Kuching church conference cluster, while the remaining 31 were linked to other sub-clusters. Uggah was responding to a letter on social media calling for SGH to be locked down due to the positive cases among the healthcare workers there.

He said SGH currently had enough personal protective equipment, as well as a clear standard operating procedure , while its doctors were"very experienced" in dealing with infectious diseases.Meanwhile, Sarawak reported six new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, of which three came from Kuching, two from Serian and one from Samarahan.

This brings the state's tally of confirmed cases to 502, the state disaster management committee said in a statement.Article type: free
