No more bodies were recovered from the MV Lady Mary Joy 3, which was hit by a deadly blaze off Basilan province.

In a statement on Saturday, the local government of Basilan said the final death toll is at 28, all of which"had been accounted for."

"Rescuers have also managed to break open the ferry's eight cabins and cleared the entire deck of debris. No more bodies were recovered," the statement read. For his part, Zamboanga City 1st District Rep. Khymer Adan Olaso - who also represents the ferry operator Aleson Shipping Lines - said he believes electrical short circuit could have cause the fire.

But he did not discount the possibility of foul play, citing"the monthly extortion letters that Aleson had received years back." The ferry was carrying over 200 passengers when it caught fire along the waters of Baluk-Baluk Island late Wednesday night.
