No Kings rallies are set to take place across Utah, including Salt Lake City, with marches planned for the first time since a previous event where an innocent man was killed. There will be 18 events across the state, including in Salt Lake City. Safety has been at the forefront of events like these ever since an innocent man was shot and killed during a No Kings march last June. The organizers running this event are not the same ones who organized the protest and march in June. This also isn't the first No Kings rally since that shooting; however, this will be the first time they officially march since it happened.'No Kings' protests return nationwide, including Salt Lake City Johnson said SLCPD has been planning for the event for a while and will be on the lookout for any violent or destructive behavior. 2News asked him if there have been any changes in how police approach and handle events like this since last summer's incident.The last No Kings protest happened in October and stayed at the Capitol building with no march. Organizers said at the time it was out of an abundance of caution. That's not the case this time around, as a march is planned from Washington Square Park to the Capitol.“I think there's something symbolic in marching,” said Sarah Buck with Salt Lake Indivisible.
