Michelle Mann FORT NOVOSEL — There were no injuries to the people involved or property on the ground during what Fort Novosel officials are calling an “aviation mishap” during routine flight school training Friday afternoon.
Fort Novosel officials were notified Friday around 2:35 p.m. of a mishap with a UH-72 Lakota helicopter near Banks, a Pike County community with a population of 156, according to the most recent census. Fort Novosel Garrison Public Affairs Office Command Information Officer Brittany Trumbull said that a two-person crew engaged in routine flight school training onboard the helicopter when the mishap occurred were transported for medical treatment. “While the aircraft did sustain damage there are no reports of damage to people or property on the ground,” Trumbull said.
The incident is being investigated by the United States Army Combat Readiness Safety Center, which is headquartered at Fort Novosel, USACRC Public Affairs Officer Jimmie Cummings said Saturday morning. USACRC is also investigating the AH-64 Apache crash in Prentiss County, Miss, Friday during which two Mississippi National Guardsmen died, Cummings said.
