Alvarez had been experiencing what the team is calling"neck discomfort" for about a week. Before Tuesday's game against the Rays, Astros manager Dusty Baker said Alvarez had been examined by doctors, but the team didn't know anything yet. When asked if it was possible Alvarez could return to Florida for Wednesday's series finale, Baker signaled to the Rays dugout, and said,"I don't want them to know."
It seems much more likely Alvarez will stay in Houston with Thursday's off day as the team returns for a six-game homestand against the Phillies and Giants beginning Friday.Outfielder Chas McCormick, who is eligible to come off the injured list after, took part in team activities before Tuesday's game, including swinging a bat.
Left fielder Michael Brantley is with the Class AAA Sugar Land Space Cowboys on their 12-game road trip through Reno, Nevada and Albuquerque, New Mexico.in the first game of his rehab stint Sunday and reported no issues afterwards.
